In the eastern part of the Netherlands you will find an ideal climate to develop, produce and market medical devices. There is a high level of facilities, specialized knowledge institutes and a unique cluster. In this cluster, called TIMP, Dutch and German companies, institutions and organisations work closely together in the field of medical technology and medical devices.
Competences
Recent R&D activities at the University of Twente and the Radboud University have resulted in the highly innovative Lab-on-a-Chip platform technology. The effective combination of physics, chemistry and biology has led to various miniature sensors aimed for simple, rapid and sensitive diagnostics. These sensors which are based on microfluidics are currently being developed to medical devices for Point of Care application.
The Lab-on-a-Chip technology can be used for a wide range of medical applications. Examples are the use of a novel ultra sensitive virus-chip for the fast detection of viruses such as SARS. This technology may have great implications for the control of new viral outbreaks. Other examples are biosensors for the measurement of Lithium in blood or the analysis of ammonia in breath.
The TIMP partners can demonstrate a proven track record of developed products for the medical and healthcare market. At TIMP you will find examples of a flexible armrest for surgeons, a working chair for the disabled and a functional, user friendly and beautifully designed new drip stand.
