Kipper

Silent, durable loading bed

A metal loading bed for a truck is usually large, heavy, noisy and results in high energy costs. Are there alternatives? The composite “Kipper Fiby” is half as quiet, lighter, stronger and far more energy efficient than the common metal version.

A group of companies in Overijssel have banded together to develop this composite loading bed for the transport sector. Composites from TenCate have been combined with strengthened plastic fibers to create a product that is six times stronger than existing metal materials. The consortium that created this “material of the future” has also come up with an improved dumping technique. This ensures a better axle weight-load distribution. The “Kipper” offers room for two tons of extra load for various loose products, such as asphalt, gravel, sand, rubble and agricultural waste. Its fuel consumption is far lower than transport with the standard metal beds. The new composite loading bed can replace most of the currently used metal beds.

Rapid product development

This development has been realized in a cooperative venture betwen ten companies, research centers and knowledge institutes with the help of Oost NV, Knowledge Port Zwolle and the Province of Overijssel. Oost NV was responsible for establishing the consortium and was instrumental in finding a way to serial produce this product in a fully automated factory.
