The blazing summer sun is a good reason to go jump in a lake. But is it safe to do so? Is the water quality good enough? In the past, testing the quality of natural surface water was time consuming and complex. The solution in this case was to simply close natural water access to recreational use. Thanks to Water Insight, this is now in the past. Portable spectrometers measure the water quality. A combination of sensors measures the presence of blue algae, which can signal a disrupted ecosystem. Within a minute you have your results. The process is rapid, simple and efficient. Water control officials can quickly implement the necessary corrective measures.
But can this be applied on a large scale? Indeed, Water Insight also performs measurements for the Dutch government at the North Sea via satellite images. Water Insight has also found partners who have further commercialized its technique. Native American reservations, abandoned mines, and the many real estate owners on the lakes of Canada are a few of the many who can benefit from this method.
Oost NV has been working with Water Insight on a loan for start-up companies that can be retroactively applied. This is the so-called “SKE-fund” in the amount of €50,000. Additionally Oost NV has brought the company in contact with its partners in Canada. The result is a joint venture for ramping up large-scale production of the apparatus and internationalization.
